Rod Style

The tilt rod is the control mechanism that moves your shutter louvres, allowing you to adjust the angle of the slats to let in more or less light. There are three rod styles to choose from: Offset Rod, Centre Rod and Hidden Rod.

Rod style comparison showing Offset Rod, Centre Rod and Hidden Rod

Offset Rod

A traditional, classical choice where the tilt rod runs vertically down the shutter panel, positioned to one side. The rod connects to each louvre, allowing you to tilt them all in unison with a simple push or pull. This is a timeless look that suits period and traditional interiors beautifully.

Centre Rod

Similar to the offset rod but positioned in the centre of the shutter panel. This gives a symmetrical, balanced appearance and is another classic option. Like the offset rod, it connects to each louvre and provides smooth, easy control of your shutters.

Hidden Rod Most Popular

For a cleaner, more modern look, hidden rods remove the visible tilt rod from the front of the shutter entirely. This gives your shutters a sleek, uncluttered finish that lets the louvres take centre stage. Hidden rods come in two varieties:

ClearView Our Recommendation

ClearView uses a very small offset rod on the back of the shutters. It's so subtle that most people wouldn't even notice it, yet it gives you a clean, modern look from the front. Because the mechanism is accessible from the rear, ClearView shutters are straightforward to service and maintain. They're our most popular option and carry our full 10-year warranty.

In-Stile Mechanism

The in-stile option takes hidden to the next level — the entire moving mechanism is built inside the shutter frame itself, making it completely invisible from both the front and back. It's the ultimate minimalist finish. Because the mechanism is enclosed within the frame, in-stile shutters are more complex to manufacture and service, which means they are slightly more expensive and carry a slightly reduced warranty period.

Which Rod Style Should I Choose?

If you love a traditional look, an offset or centre rod adds character and authenticity. For a contemporary, streamlined finish, a hidden rod is the way to go. Most of our customers choose ClearView hidden rods — they offer the best of both worlds with a clean modern look, easy maintenance and the reassurance of our full 10-year warranty.
